End of password era by Windows 10

Windows 10 has been available and about ten million of PCs and laptops all around the world have been upgraded to this OS which is the flagship of Microsoft. The biggest advantage of Windows 10 is it has become an evolution with regard to the concept of desktop operating system. In a sense, it has created an image of what role an OS has to play in the world of increasing cloud connect and mobile technology.

In addition, another important aspect is it has got various improved and great security features enabling one to use the PC for surfing the online arena with an abundance of confidence. An interesting aspect with regard to the demise of the password is Bill Gates’ prediction. Some years ago in the RSA Security Conference which took in 2004, Bills Gates predicted the death of the password which had become the primary means of authentication. Interestingly, more than a decade has passed by and still the online world in relying on the simple password and username for gaining access to the PC/Laptops and other kinds of sensitive data and applications.

Plus, it is quite true if you talk about cyber criminals. They have become smart and intelligent with regard to exploiting the weak passwords and credentials which can be compromised. Additionally, in recent years there are various evidence to show that why password has to die and why it makes more sense in using two-factor authentication or any other kind of easy type of authentication. Thanks to the Microsoft Passport, it has provided the Windows 10 with a great amount of opportunity to get stronger authentication.

The Microsoft Passport simply integrates with the AD (Active Directory) account, Microsoft Account, Microsoft Azure Active Directory and other kinds of non-Microsoft type of services which just supports the Fast ID Online (FIDO) kind of authentication. Here the procedure is quite simple. The user would pass through the smooth process of getting themselves enrolled with the Microsoft Password (i.e. only once). Then they get easily accessed to the personal system and all other kinds of services and apps which get authenticated by the Microsoft Password which is either using the Windows Hello and PIN.

Also, the Microsoft Passport is depended on various kind of biometrics and human gestures. It often uses such kind of method for authentication instead of the primitive method of the password. So, with no password to put a compromise on the risk of any kind of brute attacks and the major risk of phishing scams, the attacks can be easily minimal. Also, the potential aspect for the server getting breached is simply reduced as Microsoft Passport uses about various keys which are generated in a secure environment of the Trusted Platform Modules (TPM).

To conclude, it is true that passwords can be a pain especially when you keep a complex password. Keeping track of all the difficult and hard to extract password is advantageous when you want the bad guys to have a hard time in decoding, still the era has come to the password to die and get rid of such authentication run interaction.
