As expected, Microsoft released a new major release of its Windows 10 operating system, known as Windows 10 2004 or the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, on Wednesday.
At this time, new major releases are no longer installed automatically, only for installations nearing the end of support.
The new version can be installed manually for the time being, and Microsoft currently offers it only when manually checking for available updates via Windows Update on Windows 10 in versions 1903 and 1909.
For now, the new version may not appear to all users even after such a check. Among other things, it is not offered on devices with known compatibility issues, and at the same time Microsoft wants to make it available gradually and in stages, and not to all users at once.
However, it is possible to download ISO images of the installation media.
The new version is also available for companies and organizations through WSUS, VLSC, Windows Update for Business and Volume Licensing Service Center.
The new version contains several new features. Among other things, it includes a new version of Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 for running Linux applications with a completely new architecture with its own Linux kernel and, according to the available information, an unpretentious virtual machine. It allows you to limit the download download speed to the exact maximum speed and has added support for WPA3 and WiFi 6, for example.
At the same time, the new version is no longer available for computer manufacturers in the 32-bit version, only in the 64-bit version.
